This was our 1st visit. We also visited on...
Recently refurbished - well recommended.
The soaring temperatures and bright sunshine of mid-week had given way to drizzle by Sunday morning, though this had in its turn stopped by 09.30 and conditions for hashing, as we set off from the Royal Hotel, Heysham Village car park at 11.15, were quite pleasant. Slackbladder, who had only returned from Cardiff at 02.00 that morning after successfully cheering Blackpool on to victory and beyond, was on hand to tell us about the run - hare on in. The hardy bunch of hashing stalwarts headed down the main street towards the beach and the first check.
The first check is worth a mention, as it caused Forever Blowing and No More Cum some degree of confusion as they made futile attempts to follow a haphazard trail of flower around on the shore. Progress was eventually made via the beach and promenade down as far as the "sunny slopes", where another check caused more confusion for No More Cum. His checking connected him with an old trail set on the previous Hash, which he might have recognised had he managed to turn up for it.
The pack meanwhile were way up in distance following a trail, which took them past the Strawberry Gardens pub over the Heysham Road and into the houses up as far as Moss Wood Park. It was only at this point that No more Cum was able to make contact with anybody and was able to explain his absence to The Accused and The Judge. Progress was at this point being made by FRBs Harry with Bubbles at the receiving end of the lead.
A right turn up Trumacar Lane took us up to the traffic lights by the Moneyclose Inn, where alternative trails for wimps and rambos had been thoughtfully laid. Those of us who took the latter set off in the direction of Ocean Edge and were treated by our nature-harmonised hare to a ramble round an insect sanctuary complete with insect-history boards - different! This loop eventually brought us back to the afore-mentioned traffic lights again and over the hill on the combined trail towards the gas base. It was at this point that the hare could be seen lurking suspiciously.
A further wimps/rambos split gave those with keen eyesight the opportunity to peruse a colony of ants (thanks for that Slackbladder) and gave the would-be rambos the opportunity to invent a trail for themselves as the hare hadn't bothered. All arrived safely back at the pub's car park and generally agreed that it had been a good run, while throwing back their regular refreshments.
The Grand Master called the circle and began proceedings by giving himself a down-down for being a showoff with the horn. Further Down-downs were given to The Accused for forgetting where the run was despite electronic and verbal reminders. Slackbladder for failing to complete the trail and No More Cum for not reading his Hash Trash and making the hashers wait another fortnight for their T-shirts. The regulars at the Royal Hotel where honoured with our presence for the On-On.
The On On On was at the Black Bull later that evening
