This was our 1st visit to this On Inn.
Formerly known as the Cross Keys public house, this hotel was built in the 19th Century and has been a local hostelry for over 200 years. Provincial have sympathetically updated the exterior of the building. The name change pays homage to the bowling green at the back of the pub.
Come and try carefully chosen Craft Beers or our very own “Emporium” beer, a light ale developed with the assistance of Dent Brewery. We have selected great wines and our Gin Emporium is the talk of Carnforth!
Food is served English Tapas style, order as much or as little as you want. Pull up a chair, read your newspaper and while away a few hours in the Taps’ comfortable, warm and cosy bar area. Coffee will be served throughout the day.

There was a tense atmosphere of anticipation as we awaited the appearance of the super moon. Sadly the cloud cover had once again thwarted us, though said cover kept the temperature up to a creditable mild, which made for a sublime Autumn hash in the calm, moist darkness. A thoroughly enjoyable evening. Just as well, as we started with a veritable clutch of first-time virgins (7 in all) and a few second and third timers. A vessel of virgins, as one might put it.
Moreover, as I understand, a second and third timer were responsible for actually setting the r*n under the instruction of Major Twit. This must be the most inexperience haring in the history of LVH3, though one would not credit it, given the smoothness of the operation. So well done Small Bush and Ian B!
On the home trail a patch of very slippery ground most unfortunately dumped Bubbles so hard he cracked a rib and as I write is still immobile and in pain, so we all send our best wishes for as speedy a recovery as ribs will allow.
Most of the above-mentioned virgins could not dally at the on inn, so missed a really great, newly opened hostelry, serving a great selection of beers and beautiful food, which the proprietors had agreed to serve hours outside their usual dining window. Anyway virgins, we very much hope to see you on your second hash before very long.
As usual on our night r*ns in Winter, there was no finishing circle as such, but Small Bush and Major Twit were heartily congratulated informally indoors.
