This was our 2nd visit. We also visited on...
Beers served from Hawkshead Brewery, Coniston Brewery, Dent Brewery and Thwaites.
It was a surprisingly clear and sunny Sunday morning for January. A good turn out of regular hashers and guests assembled at the Derby Arms, Witherslack. Hares Madge and Sid had set a mostly off road trail with no wimps and Rambo splits. So, it was hard lines for us wimps suffering from the after effects of the Black Bull the night before!
Our guests had been misinformed by Thunderdick that the run would be 6km. Sadly not. But who could complain on such a fine morning. Mark narrowly escaped drinking beer out of his pristine white trainers on account of living in London and not being accustomed to our more Northern manners. Fortunately for Highway no-one noticed his new shoes.
The run started well up a big hill along some pleasant woodland paths. We convened at the top by the gate, the rambos waiting for the slower runners among us (or those more interested in chatting). The run continued across rough ground with some really fantastic views. Bubbles came to grief in an unexpected hash crash on a fast downhill but fortunately sustained no serious injuries. After passing Witherslack hall we encountered a party of pony trekkers on a bridleway who kindly gave way as our band of dogs and runners passed by. We were sure the beer stop was near on reaching the road only to find another detour across a rather large field with a bog in the middle of it causing soggy feet among many of our party. Eventually the much needed beer stop was reached and we feasted on satsumas and chocolate biscuits. But no beer!
The final section of the run took us up and down some fairly steep banks over some rough ground. Not much shiggy though, owing to the overnight frost. Finally a last section though woodland led us back to our cars and on inn to the Derby Arms.
Lurch received his tankard for completing 100 hash runs. Our guests Hannah, Hassan, Bassim, Johnathon, Mark and Hot lips were welcomed in the hope that at least a few of them might come back. Down downs were awarded to Bubbles for his spectacular hash crash, Lurch for being young and virile, Hotlips the fader and Minor Tw*t and Major Twit for canoodling at the Beer stop.
Overall a great run along well marked trails. Rather long but fairly shiggy free with fantastic views and a good on inn.
